X-CopsTEASER
On screen is a message for viewer discretion.

The show starts with the theme from cops (I have that on cd and I can email it to anyone if they want it). It shows all different clips, including Mulder and Scully.

WILLOW PARK, CALIFORNIA
The sheriff, Deputy Keith Wetzel, starts in a voice over talking about the full moon.

LOS ANGELES Co. SHERIFF'S DEPT.
Century Station

Wetzel is in his patrol car talking to the cameraman (All of the show is from the viewpoint of a camera) about his nightly patrol routine.

6:48 PM
PROWLER CALL

He gets a call about a woman complaining about a monster.

He goes to the woman's house and talks to her, but there is nothing there. The sheriff continues to look around her yard, when all of a sudden he comes out running, telling the cameraman to run to the car.

They make it to the car. The sheriff is calling in for help, when something starts smashing the windows. Suddenly the car is spun over.

ACT ONE
Some cops come to help the sheriff, and ask what he saw. He just tells them that it was just some gang bangers, because he doesn't want them to know what he really saw.

We're the FBI!

The cops run quickly down the street. Mulder and Scully are being told to put their hands up. They tell them that they're FBI, but they are searched by the cops before they listen to them. They finally believe that they are FBI once they see their badges.

Mulder tells them that they are working on the same case that they are.

Mulder and Scully walk over to the woman's door, where they see five long claw marks.

Mulder talks to the sheriff about what happened. He won't really reveal anything about what he saw.

The one cop tells him that the woman who called isn't in her right mind. Of course, Mulder ignores what she thinks. He tells her that all of the murders have taken place under a full moon, which tells him something.

Mulder describes a creature with reads glowing eyes, teeth, and claws. He then pulls out a sketch of the murderer from the last crime to show the deputy. It's of a werewolf.

The other cops thinks Mulder is nuts. Mulder grabs the sheriff's wrist, which is covered with what appears to be bite marks. He asks him how long he was going to hide them from the EMTs. Scully just hides her head.

Mulder lets the cop know that he is serious. Then he goes on to tell the sheriff that he will have to be isolated and kept under guard, because he will become a werewolf. Of course that doesn't happen.

The cop swears at Mulder, which is beeped out.

COP: With all due respect, what the *beep* are you talking about?

Mulder tells her that he's protecting the sheriff from becoming a danger to himself or anyone else. The cop asks to see his badge again.

Scully pulls Mulder to the side to talk to him. The cameraman follows them, which really annoys Scully.

MULDER: Oh, what is it?
SCULLY: What is it? Mulder have you noticed that we're on television?
MULDER: I don't think it's live television, Scully, she just said *beep*!
SCULLY: But it's a camera, and it's recording. It's recording everything that you are saying. Do you understand that? I just want to make sure that you're clear on that.
MULDER: I'm clear on that, Scully.

Scully tells Mulder that they are on a case. She is getting annoyed at him. He tells her that he knows he looks foolish, but he doesn't care. However, she doesn't want herself to look foolish. He says okay and asks her then to escort the sheriff to the hospital.

Scully dials Skinner on her cell. She turns to the camera man and tells him to give it a rest. Of course he doesn't listen, so she puts her hand over the camera lens.

Mulder and the cops go back to the woman's house. She's screaming in Spanish, and someone is there translating for her. She basically describes what could be a werewolf.

The sketch artist works with her, and he ends up with a drawing of Freddie Kruger. Everyone is ready to leave. The sketch artist asks for some help getting to his car, because he is scared. On the way out, Mulder is stopped by the woman. She wants him to find the monster. He just agrees not knowing what to say.

8:41 PM
Scully gets out of her car and walks over to Mulder. She tells him that the sheriff has been released, because the "bite marks" on his arm, were actually insect bites or stings in a pattern. She tells Mulder, making sure she gets it on tape, that he still drew an understandable conclusion from the evidence they had that anyone would have made.

Mulder asks Scully what Skinner said, and she tells him that he said that the FBI has nothing to hide, and neither do they. Mulder tells her that now he's not entirely convinced it's a werewolf, but he doesn't know what it is.

Mulder and Scully follow the cops to a crime scene.

Scully goes to get in her car and the cameraman tries to get in the back. She won't let him and makes him go with someone else.

PERSON DOWN
At the scene they find the sketch artist crumpled on the ground, dead. He has on a bulletproof jacket, but it has been slashed clear through.

ACT TWO
At the scene, Scully gets off of her cell and tells Mulder that Ricky (the sketch artist) had called for roadside assistance for a flat tire. He had told them to hurry because he didn't feel safe.

Scully finds a woman's pink fingernail. Mulder just says, "Nice color." Scully tells him to check out the other color - blood red.

Edie

Mulder and Scully talk to the witnesses who called 911. They are the first clichés of "Cops" - a gay couple. The one acts like a woman and keeps trying to get in front of the camera. They tell Mulder and Scully that the fingernail belongs to a prostitute who works the corner. The only thing that they saw was the man screaming, rolled in a ball.

When Mulder and Scully leave, the one man starts singing for the camera.

In the car:

MULDER: So, apparently we're on the look out for someone who's hair matches her fingernails - bubblegum pink. That'd be a good color for you, Scully.

Mulder tells Scully and the cameraman that he's not sure what they're looking for yet, but that it is something paranormal.

MULDER: Um, and then the nature of these crimes, they're, they're, they're notoriously hard to quantify on any kind of regular scientific level, as Agent Scully will tell you.
SCULLY (apathetically): Oh yeah.

They find the bubblegum pink-colored haired prostitute (another cliché). Her face is blurred like on "Cops." She tells them that she didn't do it, that her boyfriend did. She says that he told her that if found her he would "twist her neck off like a little chicken" if she didn't give him more money.

11:08 PM
SEARCH WARRANT SERVED

Mulder, Scully, and the cops leave the woman in the patrol car to bust the crack house where her boyfriend is. They know that he had a tattoo on his skull. They go to his run down house to find him. More clichés. People are lying around, high, everywhere. A baby screams. There is even a naked (blurred) woman in the room.

Mulder and Scully find her boyfriend dead from an overdose. He's been dead for at least a couple of days.

They hear shots fired and run outside. Whatever was there is gone. In the patrol car they find the prostitute is dead. Her neck has been twisted.

ACT THREE
They find a stray bullet in the road and Mulder theorizes that maybe the sheriff hit what he was aiming for.

Mulder asks if the sheriff will talk to him now and tell him what he saw. He finally admits what he *thought* he saw, but couldn't be true. It looked like the "Waspman," with stingers for teeth that his brother used to scare him with.

Mulder talks to Scully while they are walking. He tells her that the first victim had claimed a werewolf was after him, and he sustained injuries that could indicate it. The sheriff saw "Waspman" and received insect bites. Another eye witness claimed to see Freddie Krueger. He says that they could be dealing with one creature, one entity that appears as your worst nightmare. He thinks that the monster could feed on fear. Scully asks how they would find such a creature. He tells her that they need to find out how it chooses it's prey. It's seems to spread like a contagion. One person's fear becomes the next. Mulder goes through the cycle of who it's attacked. Scully tells him that he's missing some people - Steve and Edie. They're a part of the chain, but they haven't been attacked.

11:48
Mulder and Scully go to see the couple again. Before entering, they hear them screaming. When they rush in, they find out that they were just having a "lovers fight." Edie complains that Steve won't make love with him. Mulder and Scully try not to laugh.

1:32 AM
After talking to them some more, Mulder realizes that they aren't in danger because they aren't scared.

Mulder and Scully meet with the sheriff and more cameramen. Scully tells them that she wants to conduct the autopsy on the prostitute.

Mulder rides with the sheriff. He gets the sheriff to talk more, and he says basically that he's a cop and everyone will think he's crazy. How could you live with that? Mulder tells him he guesses just to do good work. He tells Mulder that it's hard to have a fast track career in law enforcement when everyone thinks you're nuts. Mulder just says, "Tell me about it."

"Because the FBI has nothing to hide."

LOS ANGELES COUNTY MORGUE
2:47 AM
AUTOPSY

Scully does an autopsy on the prostitute. The assistant keeps asking her questions about rumors she's heard. Scully tells her that they aren't true. She is scared and asks why she is doing an autopsy so early in the morning, with a cameraman following her. Scully turns to the camera, smirks, and says:

SCULLY: Because the FBI has nothing to hide.

The woman starts talking about a rumor that the body is infected with a contagion. Scully keeps telling her that it's not, but she keeps saying that they should be wearing masks, etc. She tells her that the woman obviously died of a broken neck, not the Hanta virus. Then the woman gets upset about what Scully said which was just a figure of speech. The woman suddenly starts hemorrhaging from her nose, and drops to the floor. Scully tells the cameraman to call 911.

ACT FOUR
4:41 AM
Mulder and the sheriff come in and she tells him what happened. His suspicions have been confirmed. The woman died from symptoms that *looked* like they were from the Hanta virus because she was afraid. Mulder says that Scully didn't see it because she wasn't afraid for her life. It all comes down to mortal fear.

Suddenly they realize that the sheriff is gone.

4:48 AM
CRACK HOUSE

The sheriff goes to look for the monster in the crack house. Once inside, he and the cameraman hear sounds from inside the building, like someone is banging on the walls.

The sheriff says he's calling for backup. They try to get outside, but the door won't open. Suddenly the tape goes to static

Mulder, Scully, and the cops find the sheriff's car at the crack house, so they stop and go inside. They open a closet and find the two scared cameramen huddled inside screaming. Scully reshuts the door on them, swearing and saying that she hates them.

They hear someone yelling and follow the noise upstairs. The sheriff is screaming from a room, but the door is locked. Mulder can't get it open, so he keeps screaming to him that it can't hurt him if he's not afraid of it. The sheriff still keeps on screaming.

Finally Mulder gets the door to open, and they find the sheriff on the floor. He's alive, but barely. The sun is coming up. He's taken out on a stretcher.

Outside:

"Hey, it all depends on how they edit it together."

SCULLY: Do you think the deputy stopped it, whatever it was?
MULDER: Maybe it just went away until the next full moon. Really, you gotta figure there's enough fear in the world, that if it doesn't show up in Willow Park, it's gonna show up some place else.
SCULLY: You didn't get the proof that you wanted Mulder.
MULDER: Hey, it all depends on how they edit it together.
MULDER points at the camera.
SCULLY: It's gonna be a hard one to write up.

The screen fades out to the different X logo, and then to "Executive Producer Chris Carter."
