In the teaser, thirteen years earlier, Robert Fassl sits in his van holding his rosary and praying to be able to do his job.

Fassl comes up to a house in the rain. A girl opens the door. He timidly says that he is from the cable company. She tells him that she didn't think that anything is wrong with their cable. Fassl turns sadly to walk away, and she feels bad. She stops him and tells him that maybe her father called, and she then invites him in.

Her father comes downstairs and says that he was just watching the game. He asks to see Fassl's work slip, but the rain has blurred the writing.

Suddenly Fassl sees blood drip onto the slip. He looks down and the father is dead on the floor. So are the mother and the girl in the other room. Fassl looks scared.

Two policemen come in and arrest Fassl. One of them is Doggett.

In the present, Doggett gets a phone call that the DNA that was found at the scene thirteen years ago was not Fassl's, and he is not the killer. Doggett is really angry and doesn't believe it. He has a newspaper of Fassl's release that calls him the "screwdriver killer."

Doggett looks through all the files about the case. He will not except that Fassl may not be the killer.

Scully checks the report and even runs her own test to prove to Doggett that the man is innocent. What she does find, however, is that the DNA evidence matched twelve out of thirteen times-it must be from a blood relative.

Meanwhile Fassl's lawyer has let him stay at her house. She tells him that she thinks it is great that he had studied to be a priest and still prays, even after what has happened.

When she leaves the room, he sees on the wall, written in blood, that he's to kill her. He gets very upset and yells not to.

In the morning, his lawyer tells him that she needs to talk to him. She found some of her drawers in her bedroom open and tells him that with freedom comes responsibility. He is surprised that she left the previous night.

After she leaves for work, realizing what has happened, Fassl finds the dead body of the maid. He cleans up and then chops her body up off screen.

Reyes talks to a cop at the prison where Fassl was held for thirteen years. He is eager to help her, because he believes that Fassl was the killer.

He explains that an inmate was killed ten feet from Fassl's cell. He thought that he did it, but there was a problem. The camera caught the killer turning the corner, but it wasn't Fassl. After that, it was like he vanished into thin air.

The man pulls out a photograph of a thinner man with a beard. He tells her that there was no one in the jail that looked like him. They couldn't charge Fassl, but he believes that he was in on it somehow.

Reyes shows Doggett the photo and tells him that either the man is doing Fassl's bidding or he is doing his.

Scully tells Doggett that she found out the DNA samples have to be thrown out. They found out that they were not from the day of the murder-someone planted them. Doggett denies that it was him. He later finds out that it was his partner at the time.

The district attorney comes to see Fassl's lawyer to talk about the settlement that they are giving him, for putting an innocent man in prison. She isn't there, so he tells Fassl to tell her to call him when she gets back.

Fassl stares at the man as blood pours from his mouth. His body falls, revealing the bearded man holding a screwdriver.

Later, Fassl buries the body of the man, in a place far "underneath" the ground.

Scully and Reyes talk to Fassl. They show him the picture of the bearded man and he gets upset. He pulls out his rosary and starts to pray.

Scully asks him if he is Catholic, and tells him that she is as well. She says that she remembers times in her life when she prayed on her rosary and it was great comfort to her in times of tribulation.

She asks him if it is that the man won't leave him alone. She tells him that if he tells them about him they might be able to make him go away.

Fassl is ready to say something when his lawyer stops him and takes him out of the room.

Doggett comes in the room, asking what that was about. Reyes tells him her theory. She thinks that he can't admit his sins, even to himself. He won't recognize his sinful side, which then physically became another personality-a murderer.

Fassl is in the bathroom when the man tells him to kill his lawyer. He doesn't want to. The man knocks him onto the floor. As he falls, he hits his head.

His lawyer comes in after hearing him fall. She opens the cabinet to get some medicine to help him. When she closes it she sees the bearded man in the reflection. She screams.

Doggett and Reyes have been staking out the house. They see someone run from it. They find the lawyer, and she is fine, just frightened. She tells them that it was the man in the picture. They ask where Fassl is. She tells them that she doesn't know--he just disappeared.

Reyes and Doggett follow him. They find a manhole cover for a cable company, and Doggett points out that Fassl worked for them.

They open it and go down inside. The bearded man starts to attack Reyes. Doggett shoots at him as he runs away. Reyes is all right.

They both decide to go different ways.

Reyes falls through a grate into water.

She climbs out and sees dead, bloody bodies, along with skulls of those long gone. She calls to Doggett.

Doggett catches up to her, but the man comes up behind him and grabs him.

Doggett tells her to shoot him, even though he says that he will kill him with the screwdriver, which he is holding to his neck.

Reyes talks to him instead. She tells the man that she is talking to Bob Fassl. He says that he isn't him, but she keeps talking, because she knows that there is a part of Fassl in the man. She yells at him that he's a murderer and a sinner. The man yells at her to stop but she doesn't.

As the man gets upset and angry, Doggett pushes him away. Reyes then shoots him. The man falls into the water.

Doggett pulls his body from the water. It's Fassl.

Scully and other agents come to the scene. The lawyer is also there. She wants to see her housekeeper, but Scully tells her that it's better if she doesn't. There are a lot more bodies down there thsn anyone realized.

Looking at Fassl's body, she tells Scully that she knows who she saw-the bearded man.

Doggett talks to Reyes, tells her that he's been up for forty-eight hours and found out that his ex-partner is a felon. He tells her not to ask him to explain how it can be-he can't accept it, but God lover her if she can. Doggett asks her what happens next time.

The camera pans out and the screen fades.

Overall Rating : 8.5
*Shippy Rating: 0
*Note: OK a new note. Ratings will be completely different now because of the absence of Mulder, and therefore most likely of most of the shippiness. The ratings for this season are not equally comparable to that of previous seasons, so they will more or less be rated on their own scale, with me (trying to) disregard the fact that DD is not in it as a component in the rating. Shippiness still (if any) will ALWAYS be based on MULDER and SCULLY (unless I decide to do MR/JD or something later). The shippy scale is still based on the Redux II scale (1-10, as Redux II being a 10 [now with Triangle being an 11, All Things being an 11.5, and Millennium being a 12, and Requiem a 12.5 all above the scale])*
